A farm in the Midwest of America. It is winter and there is snow on the ground. A man is pulling a sled away from the buildings. There is a weather vane 'rooster' on the roof of a barn. He stops by a fence. He starts digging with a pick axe. He creates a pit. He lays a dead dog wrapped in a blanket in the ground. He drinks from a whiskey bottle called 'Rebel'. He covers the dog over with earth. He picks up a rifle and fires a shot in the air. He pulls the sled back to the house.
The End.
A short story by Giles Morgan inspired by the Tom Waits song 'Cold Cold Ground'.
